So what? | #1

Uh, I didn't know I needed a subtitle, just read the first paragraph, I'll do better tomorrow.

I want to write more, so I’m going to write more. I don’t like a blog because it feels like I have to look after it, and that’s a whole other thing to worry about when really, I just want to write. So, I’m going to try this newsletter thing. I’ve got a couple of substack accounts, one for this kind of nonsense and another for more long form, focused stuff that I put more work into. I’m going to start by writing every day.

That’s right, you read it right, I’m going to PEDIJ (publish every day in June (stupid acronym)). Hopefully I’ll get into the habit and continue to do so for the rest of my days. Maybe. Hopefully. Heck that would be cool. Sign up to see if it happens …

This is the first, hello. I expect each to be quite different, I’m not sure what I’m going to write about until I write about it but before I hit the publish button I’m going to ask myself ‘So what?’. The idea is NOT to just publish word vomit. But, I don’t want to feel like I have to publish something thoughtful or profound everyday. I’m aiming for a middle ground. I want to publish something that is either useful, interesting, or entertaining. If I don’t think it will be one of those things to somebody, then I’m deleting it all. Click, click, bye

Inspiration

The inspiration for this came from a few places. Mostly from Austin Kleon, Steve Blank, and Lenny Rachitsky. Three blogger/newsletter people who write often and seem to have a good time doing it. Austin Kleon inspires me to do more writing, which I love, Steven Blank encourages me to think more about what I do, which is great, and Lenny is doing something that I know I could do too.

Then, supporting that I know people from my old place of work, Canonical (something I’m sure I’ll write about at some point) who have blogs and do bloggy things. The idea of publishing every day for a months comes from one of my old colleagues Alan (popey to some) and actually from Dodie Clark, a YouTuber who did various VED(X) (video every day in (x month)) series’, which I always liked the idea of.

So what?

“So what?”, I ask. Well this is PEDIJ #1 and so the answer is: so that I know where the start is  .
